Well, I attempted a cleanse this week.
Some may say I failed, because I cheated on the diet. But I feel a lot better then when I first started, so I don’t think I failed completely.
I have been
- getting sick a lot
- my entire body was aching
- I was craving junk food every minute, of every day
- I have been bloated (thanks to flying all the time)
- and my face was breaking out worse than when I was in middle school!
After doing some research, and going to the doctor, I decided to try a colon/liver cleanse. Just to completely flush my body and start over.
I have tried the master cleanse before, and lasted 12 hours. I HAD to eat something, or I was going to die. OK I probably wasn’t going to die, but still.
So the Master Cleanse was out. I needed a routine that allowed me to eat.
I found instructions to a cleanse on the Global Healing Canter website, and it sounded perfect! It suggests to do the cleanse for six days, however, I only did it for four days, because that is how long I was home.
CONFESSION: I did not follow the instructions completely. I didn’t stick to the fruit-only diet. I would eat avocado toast on gluten-free bread and/or toast with tomatoes. I did a tough workout one day too and decided to eat 2 eggs afterward. I completely cheated on Wednesday, because Adam and I had a date night, and there was a lot of queso involved.
However, after the fourth day, my skin is cleared up, the bloated feeling in my stomach is gone, and my craving for junk food is not as strong. I am making healthier choices in food, along with still trying to drink a gallon of water a day.
I have linked the instruction <<HERE>> and will also briefly explain the process.
Step 1: Drink a gallon of water a day.
The site suggests adding lemon and apple cider vinegar to your gallon of distilled water. I added 4 lemons and 2 tablespoons of organic apple cider vinegar to the water. Make a fresh gallon of water each morning, and if you don’t finish the entire thing by the end of the day, just throw it out and start over in the morning. NOTE: you need to pour a little bit of the water out, in order to fit all of the lemon juice.
Step 2: Buy all of the fruit from your local grocery store.
Just kidding, but the cleanse suggests you eat fruit for breakfast, snacks, lunch and dinner. Fruits are easy on your intestines and provide a lot nutrients to your body.
Step 3: Take your vitamins.
There are two suggested vitamins to take, Latero-Flora and Oxy-Powder, which I found on Amazon. The third vitamin pictured, is if you plan on doing a colon cleanse as well. (Which requires you to drink 16 more ounces of water a day)
A breakdown of the day:
PRE-BREAKFAST: Take 2-3 Latero-flora tablets and make your lemon water mix.
BREAKFAST: Choose a fruit and eat it until you are full! I chose grapes, which is one of the preferred fruits to eat in the morning.
SNACK: Again, choose a fruit and eat it until you are full. This time of day any type of berry is suggested. I chose strawberries, because they were on sale. 🙂
LUNCH: The suggested fruits to eat for lunch are apples, or bananas. Also, make sure you are drinking your water! You should be half way done with the bottle by now.
Instead of snacking again, I would eat DINNER super early. Mainly because I was hungry. It is suggested to eat raw avocados or tomatoes. I would eat either on gluten-free toast, with a little bit of salt and pepper. It filled me up and kept me from becoming hangry. Hangry Whitney= Not good.
After-dinner SNACK: If you become hungry again, guess what you should eat…. yup, FRUIT! Pineapple, grapefruit, or oranges are best.
BEDTIME: Take 6 Oxy-Powder tablets and drink the rest of your water.
and VOILA! It is pretty simple, and is really easy to follow. Only eating one fruit at a time, helps with stopping when you are full, rather than, just eating until you are done.
Also, I’m no doctor, but eat if you’re hungry! Pay attention to your body. If you are used to eating a lot, then only eating fruit might be tough. If you need more protein, like I did, eat some eggs or baked chicken. Or heck, go eat a bowl of queso. One cheat meal, will not kill you. If you have been following the plan for the most part, I think you will still see results in the end!
Good luck! I’d love to hear from you if you have ever tried a cleanse?
